Good afternoon everyone! I’m thrilled to see each of you and am equally proud to speak to you during this empowerment conference. After being invited to speak I reflected on the theme of today’s conference. “Higher Learning”, I thought. What is it? How can I use this theme to motivate my audience? Will it matter to them?
A call or challenge to do more, learn more, and be better. What do you guys think of that? That’s the brief description that comes to mind when I hear “higher learning”. If you’re sitting and wondering exactly what that means that’s great news! For once, confusion and uncertainty are good things. I know it seems odd but it will make sense a little later on. Too often we want answers, results, and facts given to us right away so that we can take them as-is and apply them to our lives. Trust me, we’re all guilty of this however, this method doesn’t always work out in our best interest; sometimes we need to break things down or apart and then build our own understanding of them up from the separated pieces and parts because the mold just doesn’t give us what we need andh although patching or fixing things is convenient, it isn’t always the best solution. Remember when I said that being confused about my definition of “higher learning” was a good thing? Well, here’s why you may have been unsure of what was meant by my definition. Your call to do more, learn more, and be better will differ from that of everyone else. There may be similarities, and there will certainly be differences, which makes your pursuit of “higher learning” unique; giving you your right to claim to it. After realizing that, the real fun begins.
Too often we shy away from putting in the effort to get the things that we want. We convince ourselves that we ‘can’t’ instead of ‘can’. There are several reasons that we do this...lack of confidence, fear, unwillingness, lack of motivation. Whatever the reason I challenge you to be better and rise above all which holds you back. Get what you need and go after what you want. I also have a few tools that will help you do this.
Here they are:
